Phone Systems

With the phased introduction of the NBN in Australia traditional copper based telephony will over time no longer be supported. In its place will be VoIP or IP based telephony. If you are in business this will mean one of two possibilities - either you invest in a new phone system or you upgrade your existing phone system with SIP trunking capability. While this process will entail investment, there are very real benefits to upgrading to VoIP even before your scheduled NBN cutover date. The following list outlines some opportunities that IP telephony enables.

  • Unified Communications
  • Unified communications (UC) is a business term describing the integration of enterprise communication services such as instant messaging (chat), presence information, voice (including IP telephony), mobility features (including extension mobility and single number reach), audio, web & video conferencing, fixed-mobile convergence (FMC), desktop sharing, data sharing (including web connected electronic interactive whiteboards), call control and speech recognition with non-real-time communication services such as unified messaging (integrated voicemail, e-mail, SMS and fax). UC is not necessarily a single product, but a set of products that provides a consistent unified user interface and user experience across multiple devices and media types.

There is a profound opportunity to drive delivery excellence in your organisation by adopting Unified Communications

  • Redirect investments from voice to fibre broadband
  • The real promise of the NBN in Australia is the possibility for a level playing field in telecommunications. This means that your internet service provider or voice provider no longer is forced to buy from a monopoly infrastructure provider, Telstra. Instead all telcos compete in the retail market and acquire wholesale access from a government owned infrastructure provider, NBN Co.

The effect of this change in industry structure is that traditional line rental services based upon uncompetitive Telstra copper will be replaced by highly competitive SIP trunking sessions. Voice traffic has in effect become transformed from an analogue signal to data on a network. Cost savings on the voice alone may be up to 25%. Of course voice quality is determined in part by the bandwidth of the underlying broadband connection. Fortunately broadband prices have dropped significantly over the years. Today organisations could literally substitute a high speed symmetric broadband connection in place of copper line rental. Apart from reducing call costs the rest of the business would benefit greatly espescially in a world that is rapidly adopting cloud based technologies.

  • Save Money
  • If your organisation has less than five voice lines, it could realise significant costs savings alone by switching to VoIP and utilising inexpensive ADSL2+ or NBN services for voice and data access. The cost savings could be as high as 50% on voice alone, amounting to savings of $3,000 p.a.

If you choose not to replace your telephone system but simply upgrade it so that it is SIP enabled then you have one of two choices:

  • Upgrade your phone system software by acquiring SIP Licences
  • Phone systems that we can upgrade include Avaya, Samsung, NEC, LG and Siemens

  • Install a SIP Gateway device to convert your analogue signal to an IP signal and vica versa
